Course Information
Description
The focus of this class is training to successfully pass the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture and Consumer Protection's pesticide applicator exam (which will be proctored in this class). Additionally, students will be familiarized with chemical handling, mixing, calibration, and application via field exercises.

  2. Recognize pesticide attributes

    Distinguish between protectant and post infection fungicides
    Explain advantages and disadvantage of types of formulations
    Describe the function of adjuvants

  3. Identify pesticide laws and regulations

    Describe the registration of a pesticide
    Explain why some products are restricted-use and who may use such products
    Explain the significance when state and federal laws differ and identify which laws take precedence

    Describe the special restriction to pesticides found under ATCP 30
    Explain the pesticide transportation rules

  4. Identify safe pesticide handling procedures

    Criteria
    Identify handling procedures, equipment, and techniques safe for the handler and the environment

  5. Complete WDATCP Commercial Pesticide exam

    State Exam
    Criteria
    Score at least 70% on Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, & Consumer Protection's commercial pesticide applicator exam

  6. Perform various pesticide application methods

    Criteria
    Accurately match application methods with target pest, control technique, environmental factors, and pesticide attributes

  7. Use and follow MSDS and chemical labels
    Criteria
    Describe the purpose of pesticide label and the legal implications for the applicator
    Describe the difference between the terms “label” and “labeling”
    Explain when you need to read the label
    Outline the information contained on the label
    Define what a signal word is and how it relates to the relative toxicity of a pesticide
    Explain the ways in which you can legally deviate from the label directions
